Here's a brief recount of what happened at last saturday's Stelladrine concert. I thought I'd share this with you for its entertainment value.

There were 4 rooms divided vaguely into the following categories: noise, ambiant, electro and "concerts" (this is where the more conventional / proper bands played, along with the more well-known ones, relatively speaking). The squat itself was large but originally an appartment complex, so as the place filled up, it became gradually impossible to move from one room to another without swimming through a sea of assorted junkies, punks, trendy cokeheads and random losers. The doorways were particularly slow to get through. I played in the so-called "ambiant / chill" room, where the terrible sound coming from two misplaced speakers was mostly drowned out by the talking audience during the more quiet passages. Since there weren't any monitors I could barely make out anything from the sound aside from the bass, but the apathetic crowd didn't seem to mind as they were most likely busy trying to buy narcotics of some sort. Right before I started installing my equipment for my set, there was a lot of commotion due to the presence of police (both in uniform and as civilians) outside and in the lower floors of the squat. In a lapse of 4 minutes, we went back and forth between "Pick everything up, it's over" and "go ahead and play, they're gone", which sounds more amusing now than it was then. The only memorable part of the night for me was when I showed up during Mourmansk 150's set and he invited me to sing along to his merry power electronics tunes. Much to the annoyance of some bearded hippie who was due to play next, I plugged in my distortion pedal and microphone into the mixing table and started shouting abuse at the audience along with Christophe / Mourmansk 150. And if there's any crowd in the world that loves and rightfully deserves distorted insults, it's the one that would show up in such a shitty squat. So thank you Christophe, it was great. Thanks also go out to those who showed up, although I think apologies for making you come there would be more appropriate.

I'm too old for this shit, and I'm only 24.
